Black Farmer Fund: Designing for Liberation and Legacy

At Black Farmer Fund, I’ve had the privilege of leading the design and production of annual reports, investor updates, infographics, and all essential communications since 2021. My work here is rooted in the principles of equity, community, and storytelling—values that resonate deeply with my own commitment to advancing liberation-centered design.

Concepts and Inspiration

The concept of "Design as Legacy" shapes much of my work for Black Farmer Fund. Inspired by the wisdom of Black agricultural traditions and cooperative economics, I aim to create designs that not only inform but also honor the deep history and resilience of Black farmers. Every report, infographic, and update serves as a bridge between the fund’s transformative mission and its audience, fostering connection, understanding, and empowerment.

I draw inspiration from:

  • Visual Storytelling for Impact: I believe that numbers and data hold stories. Through vibrant infographics and thoughtfully curated layouts, I transform complex information into accessible, engaging visuals that spark action and understanding.

  • Rooted Aesthetics: My designs reflect the beauty of the land, the vibrancy of Black culture, and the strength of community organizing. Earth tones, bold typography, and textured visuals echo the richness of soil and the creativity of the farmers and organizers at the heart of the work.

  • Co-Creation and Collaboration: Working alongside the Black Farmer Fund team, I view design as a collective process. By incorporating feedback and honoring the voices of those closest to the work, I create pieces that feel authentic, inclusive, and empowering.

Outcomes and Legacy

From crafting visually stunning annual reports to developing clear, actionable infographics, my work ensures that the stories and impact of Black Farmer Fund reach stakeholders with clarity and care. These designs are not just tools of communication—they are artifacts of a movement, amplifying the legacy of Black farmers and paving the way for a just and equitable future.
